Sierra Leone festival to celebrate the nation’s excellence
A festival celebrating the art and culture of Sierra Leone, and fundraising for disaster relief efforts to the country, will take place in London on Saturday, October 14.
The Sierra Leone Arts & Culture Mini-Fest will give visitors a glimpse into the poetry, music, film and history of the African nation.
There will be speeches and performances from Siana Bangura, Kanja Sesay, Barbara Ntumy, Mariama Oni, Ejatu Shaw, Adama Jalloh, Taliwhoah, Isatta Sheriff, Showers Jalloh and Asabi Hawah.
Photography will be on display from Sierra Leonean-British photographers Adama Jalloh and Ejatu Shaw. Screenings of short films, Denim, by Siana Bangura, and 16 Years Later by Abu Yillah will be shown. Visitors will also have the opportunity to be introduced to the Krio language by Mamusu Kallon, as well as enjoy food and arts and crafts.
Sierra Leonean filmmaker and poet Abu Yillah will host the mini-festival.
The mini-festival will take place on Saturday, October 14, from 1pm, at Common House, Bethnal Green.
This is the final event in a series by The Salone Collective to raise awareness and funds for victims of natural disasters in Sierra Leone.
Tickets for the mini-festival are available from £7 (£5 for unemployed or low wage). Some tickets will be available on the day at £10.

For those looking to make a day of it, the Afrobeats for All fundraising event will take place after the mini-festival ends at The Albany, Deptford. The line-up includes afrobeats artist Yasmin Kadi, and special guests Siana Bangura and Alim Kamara. Tickets for Afrobeats for All can be purchased here.
