Julia Biel returns with stirring post-break-up song ‘Wasting Breath’

Nothing soothes a break-up quite like listening to another’s sorrow. Especially when they express it as mesmerizingly as Julia Biel.

Following her MOBO-nominated album, Love Letters and Other Missiles, the multitalented London musician has returned with an instant classic in new single, ‘Wasting Breath’, taken from her forthcoming third album.

Wrapped in a sedate guitar groove, and dressed with string arrangements, this bittersweet song was inspired by Biel meeting an old flame and feeling a sense of strength from having moved on.

A singer, pianist and guitarist, Biel’s influences range from Neneh Cherry and Billie Holiday, to David Bowie and Etta James.

Her latest single brings to mind singers such as Angeline Morrison, Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse.

The singer’s third album – titled Julia Biel – is expected to be released later this year on Rokit Records/Khanti, via PIAS.

Biel has an autumn tour planned, and dates will be listed on her official website.
