New Waves 2018: Malika

Malika is sunshine. She’s good times. She’s happiness at the touch of a button. This London singer stole our hearts – and quite possibly yours, too – on ‘Falling’ by Snakehips. On this track, Malika summons clear skies and bright smiles with her larger-than-life voice, which lies between Beverley Knight, the Spice Girl’s Mel B and Mary J Blige.

Last year, she released her first EP, Songs About C, which featured production from Snakehips, Loxe and Bearcubs. It’s a strong debut, topped off by ‘Don’t Give Up on Me’ and ‘Run’, both of which have attracted blog posts, airplay and studio sessions for this rising star.

Kicking off 2018 as she means to go on, Malika has shared a video for her song ‘I Live’, and already has shows booked, including a Never Fade Records showcase at The Social. “I’m really looking forward to 2018, and achieving some great things,” she tells Fringe Frequency. “I feel like 2017 was the setup year. Now I get to perform, tour and show the music live. I’m looking forward to finishing my new music and expanding on what I’ve already started.”
