Oshun at Ghost Notes, London photos

Oshun has to be pleased with the welcome they received at their first ever live appearance in London.

The hip hop, neo-soul sisters from New York were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd at Ghost Notes, Peckham, on Monday night.

Niambi Sala and Thandiwe took the audience on a cosmic journey – with the help of producer and DJ Proda – as they performed music from their recently released debut album, Bittersweet Vol 1, as well as fan favourites.

Some of the highlights included ‘Burn’, ‘Blessings on Blessings’, ‘Brown’, and a cover of Jill Scott’s ‘A Long Walk’.

The sisters were joined by special guest Che Lingo, who bounded about during a version of his song ‘Black Girl Magic’. They closed with a performance of ‘My World’.

Oshun have captured the imagination of the listeners with their songs that infuse 90s hip hop and soul (Salt-n-Pepa, Lauryn Hill) with woozy beats and a strong affection for their African heritage. And their journey so far is more incredible still considering they’ve gone from graduating college just months ago to spreading their own idles on road with phenomenal gusto. The future is looking very bright for the “new goddess on the block”.

Oshun was supported by Tiana Major9.
