Watch poet Mina West celebrate women and their legacies

Spoken word poet Mina West has celebrated women achieving and leaving their mark on the world with visuals for her poem, ‘Legacy’.

The video features Curlture hair and beauty bloggers Jay & Tri, CEO of UEAwards Shinel Crinchlow, actress and karate champion Yolanda Lynes, artist manager and editor at Link Up TV Wardah Sempa, among others.

Before the video, West ran a campaign – #MyLegacy – on her social media pages, collecting quotes from women on what legacy means to them. Watch the video below.

‘Legacy’ is the leading track from West’s forthcoming debut EP, Pieces of Me, which is due in April.

West is holding a launch party for her EP at The Finsbury pub, London, on April 17. Visit her event page for more information.

Hailing from north London, West was raised by her single mother. She turned to poetry as a way of dealing with the hardships in her life. Some of her most well-received poems include ‘The Crown’, a poem about natural hair, and ‘Let’s Be Honest’, a poem about the pressure to have sex before one’s ready.

Her affinity for emotive poetry has so far earned her recognition from the UK Entertainment Awards 2016, as well as performing at various shows from YouTube UK Spaces to the Black Magic Awards.
