Princess Slayer and Kofi Stone team up for a sumptuous UK garage EP
UK garage mixers Princess Slayer have teamed up with quick-witted hip hop artist Kofi Stone to concoct an invigorating three-track EP.
OKFI – a portmanteau of the performers’ middle names ‘Oktae’ and ‘Kofi’ – means “Great Jade Strength”.
The hyperactive, split-second pulse of these two-step garage tracks is enough to generate heat all by themselves. Topped with hooks from frontwoman Casey Lim and slick bars from Kofi, the mood is of frantic acceleration through a flipbook of life lessons. It’s like a caffeine hit straight to your cortex.
Lim told Fringe Frequency the EP came about after she and her group met Stone at the live finals of Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition. Their paths crossed again at the festival when they performed on the same stages (The Rabbit Hole and BBC Introducing).
“We all seemed to be on the same vibe, so we decided to get in the studio and collaborate. Simple,” said Lim.
“Our styles are quite different, so at the beginning of each writing session we had a chat about the beat, vibe, lyrical content and mood that we wanted to go for, and then just let the ebb and flow of the session take over. It was very organic and open, which allowed us to complete each song in a single day.”

Lim said the group have further ideas for the song ‘Make It a Memory’. Beyond that, they are currently working on their first full-length album.
Since 2015, Princess Slayer have released their first EP, Living, as well as the singles ‘Every Déjà Vu’ and ‘Resolution’. They opened the main stage at El Dorado Festival for SG Lewis.
Kofi Stone hails from Birmingham. Though this newcomer only has a handful of songs to his name, his articulate lyrics and self-assured delivery easily make him one of the most promising UK rappers today. Have a watch of ‘Message to Her’ and ‘Stories in Pyjamas’ for a taste of his conscious storytelling that’s somewhere between Loyle Carner and Essa.
